The greatest software problem that I have had is that about 50% of the time, sound will not play from applications not related to windows settings. I have had many other windows laptops and computers and this is the first time I’ve had an issue like this and apparently it is an issue many other XPS 13 Plus users have had (according to Reddit and Dell forums). There has been no official fix to this but for me, I had to turn off windows sounds (meaning notification sounds won’t play) but this will allow sounds to work on everything besides windows settings and notifications. Again, another example of the laptop not being easy to use. This is especially annoying going from a MacBook where everything works and if something doesn’t work there are almost always official apple answers to fix any problems you may have.
However, by far the most frustrating problem I have had is with the screen. I usually try to take great care with my devices especially my laptops. My XPS 13 Plus was sitting on my desk, I had just used it the night before and everything was fine but then when I turned it on the next morning there was tons of LCD damage, no damage on the actual glass itself, it was not dropped or even touched over night. When I turned off the screen I noticed two air bubble in between the LCD and the glass, which is what I suspect caused the damage as they are placed where the white line begins on the display (bottom left). I contacted dell support about it and they said they will replace it. Thankfully, I purchased dell pro support for this project because the support person blamed the damage on me and said that its being covered using my once a year accidental damage. I tried to fight this as I am afraid that something else will fail on this computer and I don’t want to use my accidental damage on something that is clearly a manufacturing defect, most likely from improper sealing of the display. So if you do get this computer, I would highly suggest getting insurance for it or buying pro support, because I would not have faith in this computer lasting without needing to at least contact Dell support once. Additionally, even if somehow the screen damage was my fault, I am concerned that this computer is way too fragile.
Overall, I wanted to love this laptop and when everything is working this laptop is great. It is beautiful it is futuristic, it is powerful. However, I am a PhD student who needs to rely on a functioning laptop and due to all the problems this computer has, I unfortunately have to say it was a mistake for me to buy this laptop. Usually, I trust dell and think they are a good company. I still use a 10 year old Inspiron to practice coding, however the XPS 13 Plus is unreliable and feels unfinished. I would not recommend this laptop unless you just want an expensive toy to mess around with but for how often this laptop has problems, I can’t recommend it for real world tasks. I wish I had gotten something else.

I want to connect power, two monitors, a usb-connected keyboard and mouse, and a phone charger. The multiport adapter can only support ONE monitor, so the second monitor has to be plugged into the second USB-C slot. When I connect power to the multiport, the computer complains that it needs more power. Really Dell, the use case of two monitors should have been considered.
This XPS is the worst laptop that I have ever used. A few complaints:
1. The massive touch pad. I cannot even touch the pad unless I want to move the cursor. This means that I cannot rest my palms on the pad to type on the keyboard without causing things to happen that I do not want. Very stupid design that forced me to buy a wireless keyboard and mouse. Frustrating does not come close to describing the experience with the XPS touchpad.
2. The delete key isn't a key at all (no tactile feedback). It, and all other function keys, are part of a flat panel that provides no tactile feedback to let you know if you have accurately pressed the buttons. And when I try to use the delete "key" it I have a 50% chance that bad things will happen. Is it me? Probably but the design makes it very difficult to use. Bad, bad, bad design.
3. Most of the time the computer will not boot up when I press the power button. Unless I press and hold the button for about 10 seconds (to force the computer to start) it will not boot. Really irritating.
4. No headphone jack (unless you use the dongle USB-C adapter). Only 2 USB-C ports. So if you want to use the wireless mouse and the headphones while at the same time connecting the computer to power ..... well you can't.
5. Battery life is comically poor. Maybe 2 hours at best and this is with a new computer with a new battery. In a year I doubt that it will run for even 1/2 hour on a fully charged battery.
In short - avoid this laptop if you can.
Furthermore, I now need several attempts of powering the unit on and off before it will boot. Not to mention, the backlite keyboard is terrible.
I loved the original XPS 13 but this new one is terrible...
